Sport was always part of my life growing up — I played field hockey for my local club, then county level, then through university, and even trialled for a South East England squad. But despite all that, I was never a gym person. I had a skinny build and no interest in weights whatsoever.
That changed when I got my personal training qualification in 2012. Learning how the body actually responds to training — and what a genuinely healthy lifestyle looks like — is what got me into weight training myself. A week after qualifying, I started coaching in Walton-on-Thames. I've been coaching across Surrey ever since.
Over the last decade-plus at Walton-on-Thames, I've coached hundreds of clients — and the thing I hear back from them most isn't just about the results. It's that they leave every session feeling more confident and more comfortable in a gym environment that used to intimidate them.
Dan Holland Fitness grew out of that same approach. Whether you're training with me in person in Surrey or coached online from anywhere in the UK, the method is the same: build the plan around you, track it properly, and make sure you never feel out of place doing it.
